Raymond W. Baker, the director of Task Force member Global Financial Integrity, has written a letter to Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner (R – WI) warning him against introducing legislation to weaken the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA).

The letter, which has received coverage from The Wall Street Journal and Just Anti-Corruption suggests there will be political ramifications to for the Congressman should he follow through with his promise to introduce legislation to ammend the nation’s flagship anti-corruption law.

Just Anti-Corruption (subscription required) reports:

Campaign supporters may not look fondly on efforts to change the seminal U.S. foreign anti-bribery law, Raymond Baker, director of Global Financial Integrity, warned in a letter to the chairman of the House Judiciary crime subcommittee.

“I cannot imagine that your next election campaign will be enhanced by advocacy of an issue so inimical to American interest,” Baker wrote after naming several of Sensenbrenner’s campaign contributors and major employers in his district.

Referring to several of the legislator’s key campaign donors including Wal-Mart, Honeywell, Lockheed Martin, GE, and Microsoft, Baker threatens to confront them if Sensenbrenner launches legislation that would reduce corporate liability under the FCPA.

The full letter can be viewed/downloaded below.
