German Tax Treaty May Face ‘Difficult’ Vote, Calmy Tells FAZ

Switzerland may find it “difficult” to get referendum approval for a tax deal with Germany, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung reported, citing Swiss Foreign Minister Micheline Calmy-Rey in an interview.

A popular vote about a double-taxation agreement with Germany “could become difficult in the current environment,” Calmy-Rey was quoted as saying by the Frankfurt-based newspaper. “Certain remarks” by German officials on Swiss bank secrecy are “acceptable neither in substance nor form,” she said, according to the report.
