Description: WBI E-Learning Course: Standards and Trade: Challenges and Opportunities for Developing Countries

This is the first day in this May 25 – June 19, 2009 course which covers the development costs and benefits, strategies and institutional arrangements, and challenges and opportunities of SPS disciplines in the WTO and under regional/bilateral arrangements, and recent safety, quality and process public and private standards. While the focus is on agro-fodd standards, labor and environmental standards will also be covered.

Target audience: Policy-makers and representatives of regulatory/ technical agencies, the private sector, NGOs, and other developing country stakeholders pertaining to the challenges and opportunities, costs and benefits, and strategies and institutional arrangements for applying internationally recognized product and process standards, especially in food and agriculture.
